I’m Christina - the founder of POINTER & HOUND, a small local business based in Christchurch, New Zealand. I live here with my fiancé, Rowan, and our two dogs - Toby, our German Shorthaired Pointer, and Maple, our Miniature Dachshund. An unusual pairing, I know, but they’re the best of friends and the heart behind the name Pointer & Hound.

The idea for this business came from a personal challenge. While there are plenty of bright, colourful dog products out there (which definitely have their place!), I was always searching for something more timeless and refined - neutral tones, subtle patterns, and gear that felt more in line with my own style. I also found it difficult to get pieces that actually fit my long, lean dogs and kept asking myself: why can’t practical, durable products look good too? When I couldn’t find what I was after, I decided to create it myself.

I bring to POINTER & HOUND a background in marketing, graphic design, photography, and sales - including several years as a retail store manager, followed by a role as Head of Partnerships for a careers education software platform. I’m so grateful for those experiences; they’ve given me the skills to manage almost every part of the business myself - from designing and photographing products to marketing, managing logistics, building the website, and handling customer service. You name it!

As the brand continues to grow, I’ve recently brought my younger sister on board part-time to help with packing, stock management, and customer service. It’s been amazing having her support. The next chapter for us is expanding into the UK and getting set up with 3PLs in NZ and Australia to help us manage our growing order volumes.

POINTER & HOUND remains a very hands-on, personal business. I started it to offer something a little different - high quality, thoughtfully made dog gear that’s just as stylish as it is functional. We may be small, but we’re mighty, and I have big plans for this little business of mine.

Introducing miss Maple, my soul dog and little shadow.

Maple is your typical dachshund - stubborn, needy, barks (a lot), loves food...and so irresistibly cute. She may be small in size but makes up for it with her large personality. She loves people and playing with her fur friends.

She's always by my side, knows lots of tricks (will do anything for food) and loves to howl at sirens.

You'll see lots more of Maple modelling our products as she brings the 'cute' factor to our brand. She wears the smallest sizes in all our products - except the jackets, in these she is a size S due to her long dachshund back!
